American saxophonist and composer most remembered for his work with greats like Benny Goodman and Louie Bellson. He was awarded the Louis-Armstrong-Gedächtnispreis honor in 2008.
After hearing Benny Carter perform at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles when he was fourteen years old, he decided to pursue music professionally.
In 1955, Down Beat Magazine presented him with the prestigious New Star Award.
He was brought up in Los Angeles, California.
One of his most prestigious gigs was traveling through Brazil with the Benny Goodman Orchestra.
