He was a Dutch businessman who founded a U.S. grocery chain based in Michigan.
His children took over the family business and his grandsons became the co-chairmen.
His family donated a section of the Berlin Wall to the Gerald R. Ford Museum in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 1991.
