Chess Player
This three-time winner of the Scottish Women's Chess Championship and joint winner of the 1983 British Women's Chess Championship went on to earn the title of Woman FIDE (World Chess Federation) Master.
In the early 1980s, she began competing for both New Zealand and her native Scotland in numerous Chess Olympiads. During this period, she also earned a Ph.D. in Astrophysics.
She co-wrote a 2004 book titled Chess for Children.
Born and raised in Scotland (as Helen Scott), she later settled in New Zealand.
She was the 2012 female winner of the Oceania Chess Championship; Zhao Zong-Yuan was the 2011 winner of the same event's men's competition.
