Harry Patch
Supercentenarian
British war veteran who was a supercentenarian and the last surviving soldier who fought in the First World War. At the time of his death he was the oldest man in Europe at 111 years and 38 days old.
He left school in 1913 and worked as an apprentice plumber in Bath.
He published an autobiography entitled The Last Fighting Tommy in 2007.
He married Ada Billington in 1918 and they had two sons.
Poet Andrew Motion wrote a poem in his honor titled The Five Acts of Harry Patch.
