Saxophonist
Hard bop saxophonist who was well-known for his strong, modern sound. He played with the Max Roach/Clifford Brown Band for years.
Inspired by the Coleman Hawkins, he took up the saxophone at age sixteen.
He made his first recordings at the age of twenty-one, and toured different jazz clubs around the country well into the 1990s.
He was born in Houston and moved with his family to California when he was five.
Jon Anderson's rock band Yes included a song named after Land on their debut album.
