He began his journalism career writing for Last Hour magazine in the 1950s.
He began working as a TV host in 1961 for In the Press, before moving to the shows Editor-in-Chief and Pencil.
He married Naglaa Fathi in 1992, which was his third marriage.
He became a TV host around the same period as American Sports journalist Howard Cosell.
