Award-winning screenwriter, most recognized for his critically-acclaimed screenplay, El Norte.
In 1976, he obtained his MFA from UCLA.
His first film, The Confessions of Amans, won the Best Feature Award in 1976 at the highly respected Chicago International Film Festival.
He married his wife, Anna, in 1975. They had two sons: Christopher and Ted.
He directed Jennifer Lopez in the 1997 film Selena.
