In his senior season at John Tyler High School, he was named Texas High School football's Player of the Year after passing for 4,202 yards, 39 touchdowns along with 861 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns. He helped the University of Houston beat No. 9 Florida State in the 2015 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.
