Abstract Expressionist painter known for "Grand Street Brides" and other works. She was the only female artist featured in the Museum of Modern Art's New American Painting exhibition during the 1950s.

Before Fame

She was influenced by Henri Matisse and Kimon Nicolaïdes while studying with Isaac Lane Muse in the 1940s. She became associated with such New York School artists as Jackson Pollock and Larry Rivers.

Trivia

She was introduced to the Baltimore, Maryland, art scene for the first time in 1979 when the C. Grimaldis Gallery included her in the Paintings of the Seventies solo exhibition, after which she became a fixture in Baltimore.

Family Life

She grew up in New Jersey but later moved to Baltimore. She was the eldest child born into a family in which her father believed in using the imagination, but her mother did not.
