He was instrumental in the 1968 student uprising in Paris, which advocated for change in the French educational model.
He worked as a professor at the University of Grenoble for several years.
He was born in Millau, France. He was not formally educated, but was teased by family for seemingly coming out of the womb as a literate adult.
He and artist Sophie Calle both became well-known individuals of French descent.
