Gerry Neugebauer
Astronomer
American astronomer known for his work within the field of infrared astronomy. He's won two NASA Exceptional Scientific Achievement medals and he has been elected to the National Academy of the Sciences, the American Philosophical Society, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Royal Astronomical Society.
He immigrated to the U.S. when he was 7.
He had a major role in the design and construction of the W. M. Keck Observatory in Hawaii.
He was the son of Otto Neugebauer, an Austrian mathematician.
Like Albert Einstein before him he received a Royal Astronomical Society medal.
