Southern gospel bass singer who performed with The Cathedrals quartet. He performed with the London Philharmonic Orchestra during his career.
He joined his first gospel quartet at the age of fifteen.
He was inducted into the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 1998.
He grew up with three older siblings in Patterson, North Carolina; he was married to Clara Younce at the time of his death.
He is one of the twentieth century's most influential southern gospel singers, much like Dotti Rambo.
