He was living in Preson, Lancashire when he first heard about mormonism.
He beat eight other men in a footrace to become the first official British Mormon convert.
He had six wife and nearly a dozen children.
He was made a missionary of the church by the President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Brigham Young.
