George Aiken
Politician
Republican politician who represented Vermont in the Senate from 1941 to 1975, where helped to expand the New Deal to his state, and worked on bringing electricity to rural farms. He was also the 64th Governor of his state from 1937 to 1941.
With a childhood interest in agriculture, he started his own raspberry farm and devoted himself to cultivating commercial wildflowers.
In the Senate, he theirly suggested the U.S. could well declare a military victory in Vietnam, since they faced no opposition, and bring the troops home; he admitted it was 'far-fetched' but noted nothing else worked.
He married Beatrice Howard in 1914; the couple had three daughters.
Robert Stafford was another well-known Vermont Senator.
