Best known for her roles as the protagonists' mothers in both The Trials of Rosie O'Neill and Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, this actress also appeared in the comedy series Mr. Peepers and in the 1958 film Short Cut to Hell.
Before beginning her acting career, she studied at Northwestern University in Illinois.
She had a more than five-decade career in the film, television, and theater worlds.
Her marriage to director and writer Stanley Prager resulted in four daughters, including actress Sally Prager. A decade after her first husband's 1972 death, she married Jack Tenner; Tenner passed away in 2008.
In The Trials of Rosie O'Neill, she played the mother of Sharon Gless' character.
