He was awarded a Churchill Fellowship when he was 13, becoming the youngest recipient at that point.

Trivia

He considered Melbourne pianist Noel Mewton-Wood to be 'the most stimulating and intellectually powerful pianist Australia has ever produced' and arranged some of Mewton-Wood's music from 1944's Tawny Pipit for solo piano.

Family Life

His mother Veronica Tozer was also a talented pianist. She taught music to support her two sons after her divorce from Major-General Donald Tozer.
