Gary Gordon
War Hero
U.S. Army Sergeant remembered for his bravery in protecting those on board a downed Black Hawk helicopter during the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu. He received a posthumous Medal of Honor for his actions in 1994.
He graduated from Mattanawcook Academy and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1978.
His actions at the Battle of Mogadishu were detailed in Mark Bowden's book Black Hawk Down and, later, an Academy Award-winning film of the same name.
He was survived by his wife Carmen and two children.
He was portrayed by actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in Black Hawk Down.
