Singer and founder of the band Procol Harum, the group who released the popular song "A White Shade of Pale."
As a child he taught himself how to play three instruments: the piano, the cornet, and the trombone.
In June 2003 at the Queen's Birthday Honours, he was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire.
He was born in East London in a town called Hackney.
He appeared alongside Madonna in the 1996 film adaptation of Evita.
