He played a season for the Dallas Texans after playing college football at Southern Methodist University.
He became a member of the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame, Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame and St. Louis Wrestling Hall of Fame.
He fathered a generation of future wrestlers: Kerry, David, Kevin, Mike and Kris Von Erich.
He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame with his son David Von Erich in 2009.
