Francis Lewis
Politician
Politician and one of the original signers of the Declaration of Independence as a representative from New York. He also signed the Articles of Confederation in 1778.
He studied at the Westminster School in England before entering a mercantile house in London.
His home in Queens, New York was destroyed by British soldiers in the American Revolutionary War.
He had a son, Morgan Lewis, who served during the Revolutionary War.
He and Thomas Jefferson were both original signers of the Declaration of Independence.
