She was discovered by Eli Witt at an American Legion party. A tonsillectomy changed her singing range; she went from a soprano to a contralto.
Her first film was Every Night at Eight, which launched her career.
She married Jon Hall on June 4, 1934.
She used to perform on Dick Powell's show.
