She matriculated from California State University Los Angeles, where she obtained her degree in elementary education.
She and her group, The 5th Dimension, won a Grammy for their hit song, "Love Hangover."
She was born in Plainfield, New Jersey.
Both she and singer Susana Baca have won Grammy Awards.
