He began his professional career with Argentina's Club Atlético River Plate in 2003.
He was a 2-time MLS Player of the Week during the 2012 season.
His brother Gonzalo Higuain also became a professional soccer player who began playing with Real Madrid in 2007.
He and Aaron Schoenfeld both joined the Columbus Crew in 2012.
