Fannie Farmer
Chef
Culinary enthusiast and author of the bestselling book, Boston Cooking-School Cook Book.
She began studying at the Boston Cooking School when she was thirty years old.
She established her own cooking school, Miss Farmer's School of Cookery, in 1902.
She was born in Boston to a highly educated family and was expected to attend college. She suffered a stroke during her teenage years, however, and had to discontinue her education.
She influenced Chef Paula Deen, whose recipes frequently used Farmer's exact ingredient measurements.
