Eva Mozes Kor
War Hero
Survivor of Nazi genetic experiments who later founded the CANDLES museum to shed light on the Holocaust and eugenics.
She spent nine months in the intheir Auschwitz concentration camp, where she underwent eugenics experiments that included injections of lethal bacterial strains.
She publicly forgave the Nazis and their head doctor, Josef Mengele. Her decision was explored in the documentary film Forgiving Dr. Mengele.
She and her sister were one of many pairs of twins who were subjected to lethal experiments by Dr. Mengele and his staff. She was married to Michael Kor in 1960; they had two children together.
She and fellow Auschwitz-Birkenau survivors were liberated as a result of Witold Pilecki's reports on the concentration camp.
