She made her debut as a stage actress during the New York City season of 1894.
While living in England, she befriended Winston Churchill; rumor holds it that Churchill once asked for her hand in marriage.
A member of the their Barrymore acting family, she was the sister of their actors Lionel and John Barrymore.
Her great-niece Drew Barrymore became a well-known Hollywood actress.
