Known as the first female Justice of the Peace in United States history, she also served as vice president of the National American Woman Suffrage Association.
She and her twin sons ventured to the west coast to meet up with the rest of their family in 1869.
She declined an invitation to be a candidate for the Wyoming Territorial Legislature
She married Artemus Slack in 1841 but he died a few short years later.
President Richard Nixon officiated a ceremony honoring her with a statue in the National Statuary Hall Collection.
