Elvin Hayes
Basketball Player
Hall of Fame NBA center who was a 12-time NBA All-Star and the 1969 NBA scoring champion. He played for the Houston Rockets and the Baltimore and Washington Bullets in a career that spanned from 1968 to 1984. He won his only NBA Championship as a member of the Washington Bullets in 1978.
As a 6' 5" freshman in at Eula D. Britton High School in Louisiana, he was a benchwarmer due to his clumsy and awkward play.
He played college basketball at the University of Houston from 1965 to 1968 and was selected first overall in the 1968 NBA Draft by the San Diego Rockets.
He had four children with his college sweetheart Erna.
He played head to head against UCLA and Kareem Abdul Jabbar in the Final Four of 1967 NCAA tournament.
