Designer of the Remington rifle who founded Remington Arms, which was at one time the oldest manufacturer in North America.
He lacked the money to buy a new rifle, so he made one in his metal shops and discovered it was even better than store models.
He created the first solid-steel rifles in America and the first breach-loading guns. Remington weapons became extremely popular during the Civil War.
He founded Remington Arms in 1816 and incorporated with his two sons in 1856.
He and Henry Deringer both invented a popular line of guns named after themselves.
