Elin Pelin
Novelist
A Bulgarian author, he is best known for his themes of Bulgarian country life and the transition from rural to modern life. His most their works include The Gerak Family (1911) and Earth (1922).
He published his first literary work in 1901, and he subsequently worked as a librarian while continuing to write and publish.
He was a pioneer in Bulgarian children's literature.
He grew up in a village near Sofia, Bulgaria.
Pelin and Jan Neruda were both realist writers.
