Edwin Booth
Stage Actor
Nineteenth-century Shakespearean actor whose theatrical career was overshadowed by his family's infamy. His younger brother, John Wilkes Booth, assassinated President Abraham Lincoln.
Born into a theatrical family, he made his stage debut in a Boston production of Shakespeare's Richard III.
He played the role of Hamlet on numerous occasions.
He and his two brothers appeared on stage for an 1864 benefit performance of William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar.
In a strange twist of fate, Edwin Booth saved the life of Robert Lincoln, President Abraham Lincoln's son, not long before his brother, John Wilkes Booth, shot the president.
