Director, producer, and writer of low-budget campy films, most notably the 1950's features Plan 9 From Outer Space, Glen or Glenda, and Bride of the Monster.
He was clothed in skirts and dresses until he was 12 years old.
He was portrayed by Johnny Depp in the 1994 biopic film Ed Wood, which was directed by Tim Burton.
He married Norma McCarty in 1955, but the couple divorced the following year. He then married Kathleen O'Hara in 1959. He had a daughter named Kathleen Emily Wood.
Horror actor Bela Lugosi starred in a number of Wood's films.
