British actress who received an Emmy Award nomination in 1957 for her role in the film The Happy Breed.
She studied acting under the first professor of Drama at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and made her debut at the Grand Theatre in the 1917 production of Charley's Aunt.
She was awarded with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She played a mother in the 1934 Alfred Hitchcock film The Man Who Knew Too Much.
She was married to actor Herbert Marshall from 1928 to 1940 and they had a daughter, Sarah. She later married Nat Wolff, who died in 1959.
She starred with Doris Day in the 1934 film The Man Who Knew Too Much.
