Academy Award and Golden Globe winning actor for his role as Oscar Muldoon in The Barefoot Contessa who also had major roles in the films The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and White Heat among many others.
His earliest role was as Gringoire for the 1939 picture The Hunchback of Notre Dame. He followed that with Parachute Battalion and A Girl, A Guy, and a Gob in 1941.
He garnered an Academy Award nomination and another Golden Globe win for his role as Senator Raymond Clark in Seven Days in May.
He was married to his first wife Nancy Kelly for only about a year before marrying Olga San Juan who he was married to from 1948 until 1976. The marriage ended in divorce.
He had a supporting role to Marlon Brando's lead and title role in the 1953 version of Julius Caesar.
