Jazz trombonist and pioneer with the electric guitar who played with Jimmie Lunceford and Count Basie's Orchestra, and arranged Glenn Miller's "In the Mood."
He was part of Bennie Moten's Kansas City Orchestra, where Counts Basie played the piano, and Durham joined Basie himself in 1937.
He composed "Topsy" and "Out the Window" for Count Basie and "Lunceford Special" for Jimmie Lunceford.
He was born in San Marcos, Texas, his father Joe Durham was a fiddle player at square dances, and his brother was a one-time cellist with Nat King Cole.
He had collaborations with Cab Calloway, among many other notable musicians.
