Hawaiian surfer, Olympic swimmer, and descendant of Hawaiian royalty who went on to act in several films including The Pony Express.
He was an avid surfer, spending much of his time at Waikiki Beach.
He popularized surfing and won five medals for swimming in the Olympics.
Married Nadine Alexander in 1940.
He lost to Johnny Weissmuller in the 1924 Olympics.
