Jazz artist who was a member of Charlie Parker's classic quintet from 1947 until 1948, which also featured Miles Davis.
He drove a taxi in New York during the mid-1960s in order to pay the bills. He was unknown until signing with SteepleChase Records in 1973.
He played with Parker at the 1947 Dial sessions, out of which came such classics as Dewey Square, Bongo Bop, Bird of Paradise, and Embraceable You, all of which were released on Charlie Parker on Dial: The Complete Sessions from 1993.
He was married to jazz singer Sheila Jordan from 1952 to 1962. They had one daughter, Tracy J. Jordan, together.
He contributed to the score of the 1959 French film Les Liaisons Dangereuses, which was directed by Roger Vadim.
