American child actor who played the role of Kurt von Trapp in the popular 1965 film version of The Sound of Music. He started appearing in commercials when he was eleven years old and also worked as a model.
He studied geology at both UC Santa Barbara and the University of Alabama. As a young man, he briefly worked for the United States Forest Service.
After retiring from acting, he designed computer programs used by geologists.
He married Petra Maria, a German-born nurse, in 1987.
He co-starred with Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music.
