American left wing known for his hustle and hard work. He was originally drafted by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in 2003, but cemented his place in the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings, joining the team during the 2009-10 season.
He captained the Michigan State Spartans and led the team in points during the 2005-06 season.
He led all NHL forwards with 99 blocked shots during the 2014-15 season.
He was the tenth member of his family to play college hockey at Michigan State. His brother is NHL goaltender
