Douglas Mawson
Explorer
Antarctic explorer who wrote the popular book The Home of the Blizzard.
He studied and taught geology at the University of Adelaide.
Robert Scott invited him on the famed Terra Nova expedition, but Mawson declined, and planned his own expedition instead.
He and his family emigrated from England to Australia when he was young.
Roald Amundsen was another key figures in what came to be known as the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration.
