Known for Exactly Like You, On the Sunny Side of the Street, and The Way You Look Tonight. She wrote over 400 songs for Broadway and films.
She started out writing songs for Tin Pan Alley and Hollywood, becoming one of the first successful female songwriters.
Her song The Way You Look Tonight was featured in the film Swing Time and won an Academy award for Best Original Song in 1936.
She married second husband David Eli Lahm in 1939. The couple had two children together.
Her song Pick Yourself Up was alluded to by Barack Obama in his 2009 presidential inauguration speech.
