Late mother of internationally acclaimed rapper Kanye West. She was serving as his manager when she died in 2007 following a complication in a breast reduction surgery.
Before taking on the role as her son's manager, she was a professor of English at Clark Atlanta University.
Her tragic death prompted Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to sign the "Donda West Law," making it mandatory for patients to provide medical clearance for voluntary cosmetic surgery.
Her ex-husband and Kanye West's father Ray West was a former Black Panther and photojournalist for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
She died before she was able to meet her grandchildren, North and Saint.
