Don Young
Politician
Republican politician who became U.S. Representative for Alaska's at-large congressional district in 1973, and is often called Alaska's third senator. He began his 22nd consecutive term in 2012.
He served in the Army from 1955 to 1957 before moving to Alaska in 1959, not long after it became a state.
Before he entered politics he captained a tugboat, ran a barge operation to deliver products and supplies to villages along the Yukon River, and taught fifth grade at the local Bureau of Indian Affairs elementary school.
He had two daughters with his wife Lula Fredson, who was an indigenous Gwich'in.
He was a strong supporter of Mike Huckabee's during the 2008 Presidential race. .
