He spent three years as a paratrooper with the U.S. Army, and then earned a Master's degree at the University of Washington.
Although the Chargers consistently led the league in passing and set records along the way, they didn't reach the Super Bowl.
His parents raised him in Seattle, Washington.
The Hall of Fame QB Dan Fouts led Don's "Air Coryell" attacks.
