Professional infielder and outfielder that was drafted by the New York Mets during the first round of the 2013 MLB Draft. He was named a finalist for the Hank Aaron award for the National League after the 2020 MLB season.
He began his professional career playing for the Mets' rookie affiliate team the GCL Mets.
He made his major league debut playing against the Philadelphia Phillies on August 11, 2017.
He grew up living with his parents, Clay Smith and Yvette LaFleur, and his six siblings.
He recorded his first career major league home run facing Sonny Gray on August 15, 2017.
