R&B and blues singer and pianist who was inducted into the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame in 1986 and won a Grammy Award for "What a Difference a Day Makes."
She sang gospel music, played the piano, and directed her church's choir.
At the Three Deuces jazz club, she first started singing regularly and acquired the stage name Dinah Washington.
She was married seven times and her last husband was football star Dick "Night Train" Lane.
She performed with jazz greats Count Basie and Duke Ellington.
