Known for co-writing the screenplays of such Hollywood films as 2 Fast 2 Furious and The Double, he also penned the Silver Bear novel trilogy and created and produced the NBC series Chicago Fire.
Early in his career, he collaborated on the screenplay for a 2001 martial arts television movie titled Invincible.
He was one of the writers of the Russell Crowe and Christian Bale western 3:10 to Yuma.
After earning Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees in English from Baylor University in Texas, he settled in Los Angeles, California.
He, Michael Brandt, and Chris Morgan collaborated on the screenplay for Wanted, a 2008 film starring Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman, and James McAvoy.
