David Keith Orton

Canadian environmental philosopher associated with the Deep Ecology movement. He pioneered the concept of Left Biocentrism and published a 1998 primer on the topic.
He apprenticed as a shipwright in the Portsmouth Dockyard for five years, beginning when he was fifteen years old.
He was an anti-capitalist, an anti-industrialist, and a passionate advocate of social justice.
He lived in Nova Scotia with his wife and collaborator, Helga Hoffmann-Orton.
He lost his teaching position at Sir George Williams University (now Concordia University) after writing a paper praising revolutionary Communist Che Guevara.
