David Lewis
Philosopher
Controversial philosopher who made breakthroughs in the philosophy of language, mind, metaphysics, and logic.
He earned his Ph.D. from Harvard in 1967, where he was taught by W.V.O. Quine and took a seminar with J.J.C. Smart.
He taught briefly at UCLA and regularly at Princeton.
He received a kidney transplant from his wife after suffering from diabetes for an extended period of time and eventually died from the disease.
He was influenced by Henry David Thoreau.
