Actor of film, television, and stage who played Adolf Hitler in the 2008 film Valkyrie. He also starred at Mr. Collins in the 1995 film adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.
He studied drama at Bristol University before studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art; he won the Gold Medal at the latter in 1979.
He won the 1995 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor for his performance in My Night with Reg. He reprised the role in a BBC TV adaptation the next year.
He married actress Julia Swift in 1982 and they had two sons.
Tom Hooper directed him in the acclaimed film The King's Speech, in which he played a theatre director.
